Mr. Othlyn Vanterpool was born in Anguilla
and raised in the industrious village of
Welches. He currently works for the
Government of Anguilla in the Ministry of
Social Development, where he specializes
in the area of youth, sports, and culture.
Mr. Vanterpool began his secondary
education at the Valley Secondary School
here in Anguilla, and then he traveled to
Guyana where he studied Youth Development at the
Commonwealth Youth Center. From there, he went to Jamaica
where he studied Principles and Practice of Social Work at the
Social Welfare Training Center U.W.I, Mona, Jamaica. Still later
on, Mr. Vanterpool furthered his education in Newfoundland
Canada studying Fisheries Development / Fisheries Technology at
the Institute of Fisheries and Marine Technology.
Mr. Vanterpool is entering politics because he believes that it is
perceived to be socially insensitive, hence his vast experience in
social work will usher in a new and more balanced perspective.
Mr. Vanterpool’s dedication to social development is evident in his
community outreach. He is the co-founder of the Little Patriots
Drum Corp. and he also organizes and directs the group.
Additionally, he is the chair of the Island Harbour Community
Policing Group and he organizes the Welches Village Fest and
assisted in the organisation of the 2008-2009 Festival Del Mar.
More extensively, he is a member of the Optimist Club of Anguilla
and he has been the Chief Commissioner of Scouts for over 15
years.
